The short answer
The main IdeaBrowser alternatives are Ghostlaunch's free ideas library, where every idea comes with the real posts behind it; BigIdeasDB, a complaint-mined idea database with one-time plans; PainOnSocial for Reddit pain points; and Preuve AI for researching your own idea. To test whether people want an idea, Ghostlaunch runs a 7-day test.
What IdeaBrowser is
IdeaBrowser comes from the team behind The Startup Ideas Podcast. Its pricing page describes a Pro membership with 2,000+ researched startup ideas, scored and searchable; a trends database; 100 ideas a month generated for you; 20 deep-research reports on your own ideas; an “AI cofounder” with 22 agents that work inside tools such as Claude and ChatGPT; a monthly accelerator; and partner deals on other software.
When we checked, Pro cost $1,499 a year, renewing yearly, with a 14-day refund. The same page values the data part on its own at $499. There are no monthly plans on that page.
Why people look for an alternative
The price is the most common reason: $1,499 a year is a lot to commit before you've picked an idea, and much of the membership, such as the accelerator and the agents, matters only once you have. Others want ideas grounded in evidence they can check themselves, rather than scores and estimates. IdeaBrowser's own pages call its scores and revenue estimates educational and based on assumptions.
And some people already have an idea. For them, a database of other ideas isn't the point. They need to know whether people want theirs.

The alternatives, one by one
- Ghostlaunch's ideas library
- We make this one. Free: business ideas grouped from real Reddit posts where people asked for a fix, with every post linked so you can read it yourself, sorted into niches such as SaaS, apps and small business. When you've picked one, Ghostlaunch can test it: a landing page shown to people asking for a fix, with sign-ups counted for 7 days. The search is free. A test is $49 on its own, or the Founder plan is $99 a month for 3 tests and Studio is $249 a month for 10.
- BigIdeasDB
- Says it analyzes over a million user complaints from G2, Capterra, Reddit, Upwork and app stores to surface SaaS and startup ideas, each with revenue estimates, competition gaps and build guides. Its pricing page lists one-time lifetime plans from $29 to $349 and a Pro plan at $49 a month.
- PainOnSocial
- Scans the subreddits you choose over 7, 30 or 90 days and lists recurring pain points, scored by how often and how strongly people raise them, each with real quotes and links. Starter is $19 a month after a 7-day trial and Professional $49 a month; there's no permanent free plan.
- Preuve AI
- For when you have an idea and want it researched: a free 60-second scan with a viability score and the main risks, then a $59 one-time report with competitors, market sizing, pivots and a plan PDF, with claims linked to sources.
Find an idea, then test it: how to choose
If you don't have an idea yet, start with a source you can check. Ghostlaunch's library is free and shows the posts behind every idea; BigIdeasDB and PainOnSocial dig deeper for a one-time fee or a small subscription. A membership like IdeaBrowser makes sense if you'll use its agents, accelerator and deals, not just the database.
Once you have an idea, the next question is whether people want it, and no database can answer that for your version. Run a small test: a landing page with a price, put in front of people who have the problem, for about a week.
- No idea yet: browse ideas with evidence attached, and read the posts.
- An idea, but unsure of the market: a sourced report, such as Preuve AI's.
- An idea you believe in: a 7-day test with real visitors.

Questions
How much does IdeaBrowser cost?
When we checked, IdeaBrowser's pricing page listed Pro at $1,499 a year, renewing yearly, with a 14-day refund. The page valued the ideas and trends data on its own at $499. It didn't show monthly plans. Check its site for current prices before you buy.
What is the best free alternative to IdeaBrowser?
Ghostlaunch's ideas library is free and shows the real Reddit posts behind every idea, so you can check the demand yourself. It's smaller than a paid database, but each idea is grounded in people describing the problem in their own words, with links to every post.
Are startup idea databases worth paying for?
They can save research time if you'll use them often, but an idea from a database is only a starting point. Thousands of other people see the same list. What turns an idea into a business is evidence that your customers will act, which you get from a small test, not from the database.
I already have an idea. Do I need IdeaBrowser?
Probably not for the database. You need to know whether people want your idea: search for people describing the problem, then put a landing page with a price in front of them. Ghostlaunch does both, starting with a free search of people already asking for a fix.
